Advertisement of WBCS(Executive) ETC. EXAMINATION, 2001 has been published by the Public Service Commission, West Bengal on 21/08/2010 on leading newspapers.
Brief Information:

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Degree of Rrecognised University
2. Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali ( not required for recruitment in the case of Nepali speaking candidates from hill areas of Darjeeling).
AGE:
1. On First January, 2011-for candidates competing for Group(s) A, C and D- not below 21 years but not more than 32 years that is born not earlier than 02/01/1979 and not later than 01/01/1990.
2. For Group B- not below 20 years and not more than 32 years that is born not earlier than 02/01/1979 and not later than 01/01/1991.
3. Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates of West Bengal and by 3 years for BC candidates of West Bengal and upto 45 years of age for persons with disabilities having Physical Disability of 40% and above.
4. SC/ST/BC candidates not belonging to the state of West Bengal shall be trated as General Candidates.
The Preliminary Examination will be held at various centres in West Bengal in January, 2011 or thereabout.
The Main Examination will be held in Kolkata only in June, 2011 or thereabout.

dipanjan said...: friend can any one tell me that there was one question habeas corpus according to english version the answer will be (b) "to have the body" which means that a person can be freed if there is any unlawful detention.But according to bengali version the(b) option was "have to represent a person in front of court" which is not the answer of the question. that means according to english version the option (c) is right and accrding to bengali version (d)"none of the above" is right so in that particular case will the question be considered as wrong answer plz ans friend; March 23, 2012 at 6:30 PM

dipanjan said...: @ subhrajyoti but meaning of "to have the body" doesn't mean to represent the body in front of court rather the meaning will be a person will be freed from unlawful detention habeas corpus taken fron the constitution of u.k. in their constitution it has been writen "you may have your body" which means you will be freed fron unlawful detention according to english version it is right but the meaning of "to have the body" which has been written in bengali version was wrong totally. there is other question also like sovreignity, in option (a)there is definition of internal sovreignity and in option (b) there is definition of external sovreignity so can u please tell me what one can answer in that particular case; March 24, 2012 at 9:07 PM

Anonymous said...: to friend anonymous,91/92 score(after deducting negative) for s.c candidates is good i think,as the paper was tough.but no one predict you the exact cut off.its only known to the PSC.
to friend koushik,each optional paper is scoring,provided you answer properly and satisfy the demand of the question.honourable examiner will award you proper marks.dont lose hope with bengali optional.identify your weakness,you will find confidence.

Anonymous said...: Friend bishakha,hemanta and others,i have a friend who called up the psc enquiry today,and got information that prelims 2012 result may be out in june 2012.quite surprising!different responses.
Friend supriya,as gen.candidate you scored well.you may hope.100-105 score is good.but you know thousands of candidates appear for prelims,while only 3000-3500 write mains.its really tough.the higher you score,the safer you remain.
Friend parimal,you also have a good chance.
For anyone who wants to know about cut-off for this year may refer to Atanu's posts made in february 2012.scroll up,you will find.he has done a great job.

Anonymous said...: Friend shweta,i am not an Agri&A.H.background student.still i can say you may visit college street and check Saraswati Book Store or Asian Book Store,ask them about text books,they may help you.even if you are staying away from kolkata,go there.you should also try to find out an expert(a professor,or a senior student)in this field for your problem.and regarding 10 yrs paper i think it will give you a fair amount of idea about the trends of your optional.

rahul said...: hi friends..have been seeing this blog for some time..thought of sharing my experience.i am a gen candidate..appeared in 2010 prelims first and had scored around 107.i didn't qualify..consulted few selected ones and they said it has to be around 140,but it seemed bit too higher.in 2011 i scored around 137 and was qualified..i do not want to discourage anybody but a cut off of 100 for gen category i.e.50% is way too low for a state civil services as i have cleared 3 of them..it may vary a bit but what i feel is those above 125 are almost sure in,above 115 should be hopeful but not too sure,between 100-110 they should pray with slight hope and below 100 should prepare nicely for next attempt..i know when we are on the border we like hearing comforting words about cut off being low but its better to be prepared to avoid extreme dissappointment with results.; June 2, 2012 at 11:07 AM

rahul said...: identify your strength..if you are math/science background,you have upper hand in general science and mental ability..25+25..if you are good at English you get another 25..now out of this 75 you can easily score a great deal..well if you are an art background..no worries..only thing you will need is extra effort..a great deal of it..this advice list is getting long and boring..so i will try it by module.if you think its helping i will write another one..
1.for general English,west Bengal people generally have good English as compared to other states and it reflects in the paper and so is expected by psc.get few basic lists like the name of sounds/habitat of animals..name of their offspring etc..look for any good English book of 10th standard..you will have a long lists of idioms and phrases..read each one of it carefully and see if its meaning is obvious in your Bengali/Hindi sense..you will see that you will have to remember less then 10% of that long list..but others will come obvious because you have related them..since vocabulary cant be build overnight..there is no shortcut for synonyms or antonyms..keep reading magazines or newspapers and keep a dictionary in your phone..if half the time that people waste in sms or browsing is utilized in quick reference to dictionary you will see magic..read a high school grammar book for articles and prepositions..when you have spent enough time reading..you will just know if the sentence is correct or which preposition out of 4 will be best.. develop a habit of reading English and thinking in English..its not about 25 marks..its more then that.; June 2, 2012 at 11:20 PM

rahul said...: well..believe me the selected ones are as much human as us.."not sure"..and once they are beyond that line,they don't actually know how far are they above cut off.mains s different thn prelims because prelims has all digital marking..you know exact score..also about cut off...you take a sample space..subtract standard deviation from mean and you get it..there is no such method for mains because first nobody ever knows how much they actually scored and secondly where it came down after relative scaling.for example somebody has history..and attempted 80 marks in one paper..now in a question of lets say 16 marks..which you think is perfect,you may get 12 or 10 or may be even 8..so out of this 8o he actually scored 50..and scaling brought it to 60 or 35..so he would never know wt happened.
the selected ones have different ideas ranging from 460 to 500+ for group A call..few even say 550..so you see.and if my opinion matters..i would say..
it should be around 500..not attempted but actual..meaning if you did a 100 in english,count around 60-65 if you have great writing skill..same with bengali,GS part 2,fyp and constitution..arithmatic will be easy and fetch pure marks..and same with gs part 1..thr you can imagine a 100% marking..in subjects it depends..you know better..so if thats coming around 500..you should get a call.

sayb said...: I agree with you Rahul on being patient. But the fact of the matter is that the West Bengal Public Service Commission is a true reflection of the state of affairs in West Bengal. Under no circumstances, it can take over 5 months to declare the prelims result of a State Civil Service Exam where the checking of the OMR sheets are done using computers (with minimal human element involved). Compared to the UPSC where 4-5 lakh aspirants sit for the exam, the State Civil Service Exam does not draw such large numbers. Even then the UPSC, which conducted it's prelims on May 20th has declared it's results. My point is very simple, in an age where time is considered of the utmost value, where every second counts, thousands of candidates are forced to lose precious time by the sheer lackadaisical attitude of the powers that be. This long delay does not help the candidates at all. And regarding the fact that the state civil services take a lot of time in declaring the results.... Yes, I'm aware of it too. Regarding the comparison that I made with the UPSC, I wanted to highlight the fact that even in government run organisations, work can be carried out effectively and efficiently provided there is an intent. My point is why can't the PSC declare a yearly schedule of all examinations in advance along the lines of UPSC? It is not a huge ask. In plain words this is called being "efficient". And trust me it has nothing to do with what privileges UPSC gets vis-a-vis the state PSC's. It is essentially a matter of political will. The bottom line is if the authorities are concerned about attracting bright young minds to the service, they have to ensure that they put in place a system that attracts the best. After all, shouldn't the powers that be want the best of the state serving as the bureaucratic machinery. And no these are not the rants of a schoolboy. I believe that all of us here are nurturing dreams of becoming a civil servant. Well, the biggest motivation of trying to be an administrator is to use whatever powers that are provided to you to bring about changes within the system and the society.
